Deliberately dangerous driver doesn’t like to share
30 Sep, 2021 - 5 years ago - on Fit 4 Life 24 On an afternoon commute in slow moving traffic congestion, a truck driver decided to pass and attempt to ram this cyclist off of the road. He struck my left hand, which was on the drops, and continued on his way despite me repeatedly slapping the side of his truck trying not to go under his back wheels. His response was to lower his bed window and shout "Get off the G*ddamn road." Note: North Carolina passing laws require drivers overtaking cyclists to change lanes or provide at least four feet to pass. The roadway here had a completely open middle change lane; stop & go traffic congestion was moving at approximately 15 mph. The rear video showed the driver was behind me, was aware of me, and chose to pass very closely and then turn into me. The video was able to capture the license plate and a report was made to the local police. Based completely on viewing the videos, the police charged the driver with an assault with a deadly weapon. The driver's attorney was able to plea bargain the charges down to careless/reckless driving.
