Deer strike at 28 mph on mountain road descent

Boulder, United States

31 Jul, 2018 - 8 years ago - on Flagstaff Road

After tens of thousands of miles logged riding up and down the hills west of Boulder under all conditions and having some close calls with wildlife...I hit a deer today descending Flagstaff mountain road. According to my Garmin I was traveling at 28 mph about 200 meters from the bottom following two cars when a deer stepped out from the close underbrush. I had no chance to brake or for avoidance. Thankfully a motorist saw it happen and stopped to help. I manged to get my bike in working order to soft pedal home and assess my skin loss and other potential injuries. My helmet worked as it should have. Not sure of my bike just yet as it took a hard blow with the deer and the ground. I trimmed the video down to 2 minutes.
