Sydney City Council has this wonderful policy of keeping the streets clean by sending staff out once a week in the mornings to sweep up all the leaves and litter into piles that the street sweeping machines can then come past and sweep up.
That’s the good part.
The bad part is that the staff sweep up the piles into the bike lanes, and the piles can often contain cans and beer bottles and other stuff like that hidden under the leaves. If you ride over a beer bottle, there’s a chance your front wheel is going to go out from under you and you are going to hit the road. If you see piles of leaves, just avoid the bike lane and ride out in the traffic lane instead.
