Do not ride through piles of rubbish swept up in the bike lane

Sydney City Council has this wonderful policy of keeping the streets clean by sending staff out once a week in the mornings to sweep up all the leaves and litter into piles that the street sweeping machines can then come past and sweep up.

That’s the good part.

The bad part is that the staff sweep up the piles into the bike lanes, and the piles can often contain cans and beer bottles and other stuff like that hidden under the leaves. If you ride over a beer bottle, there’s a chance your front wheel is going to go out from under you and you are going to hit the road. If you see piles of leaves, just avoid the bike lane and ride out in the traffic lane instead.

Why you should never ride in the down hill bike lane on Miller St – it’s deadly

The site lines in and out of the side streets on the left are absolutely terrible. If you ride in the marked bike lane, you’ll either get doored or taken out by someone driving out of a side street without looking properly. Hug the double white line in the middle of the road so you an see drivers coming out from your left.

Phone zombies walking in the Pyrmont bike lane

What do you do about phone zombies who aren’t paying attention to their surroundings, and are wandering down the bike lane three abreast, blocking it from side to side? Can you add “idiot” as a “type of danger”?

Terribly designed infrastructure

After the road shoulder on Hillsboro Pike disappears you are forced on to a sidewalk where you have to avoid utility poles and other obstacles in the sidewalk.  This is the poorest designed and planned sidewalk I have ever seen.

Angry Ute

Motorist in Ford ute passed well within minimum pass distance of 150cm, coming within 30cm of my handlebar whilst we were bunch riding double breasted. Other motorists passed without coming close, ute driver just trying to prove a point! The driver ended up being fined $1,000 by the magistrate for failing to comply with a Police demand (would not provide the name of the actual driver)

No Taxi Required

Taxi almost took me out on a roundabout in Plymouth England

Nearly Doored

This strip is notorious for dooring. Local council is being obstructive about making a bike lane and removing parking.

Motorbike using the bike path

Nearly doored. Don’t ride in the door zone!

XXXX: The beer’s so good they’re throwing it away!
