White Cadillac CTS “punishment pass”
3 Jul, 2020 - 5 years ago - on Montecito Avenue I was riding north-east on Farley Street, approaching the intersection with Montecito Avenue, planning a left turn. (Both streets are pretty normal residential streets, with sidewalks, parked cars, and no bike lanes.) I heard loud engine noise coming from my right; it sounded like it was coming from the section of Montecito Avenue in that direction. I made my left turn, and vaguely recall seeing the front of a white car slowing at the stop sign.
I was heading to an apartment complex on the north side of Montecito Avenue, so planning a right turn into the driveway. There were parked cars on the street, so I left a safe distance to reduce the risk of being hit by opening car doors. The car (that I had heard the engine noise from since making the turn) honked behind me, revved its engine and passed within (I would guess) 1 or 2 feet of my bike. I rang my bell a couple of times (a habit I have when another vehicle is passing too close), and made my turn into the driveway. The car continued west on Montecito Avenue.
