Ninja in the bike path
For interest's sake: I realize that I was partially responsible for the close pass, however, the oncoming cyclist wasn't readily visible until about 3s of closing distance - when I was already committed to passing. His front "light" was either dead or nearly, and acted as little more than a very poor reflector. The reflectivity from it in the video is amplified by the camera - it was even darker to my human eyes than is shown here. With the other ambient reflective light sources, and most other cyclist being visible 16-18 seconds away, he really did "come out of nowhere". Just highlighting the importance of actually being visible in the dark, not just to cars.
