Cyclist veers to avoid collision with car

5 days ago in Ottawa, Canada

Cyclist was switching lanes from right to left to connect to the bi-directional bike lane that begins one block further up on on the left side of the street. At the same time, a car moves into the same lane from the left side cutting the bike off and forcing it to veer right to avoid a collision.

It's completely bizarre that there's a beautiful protected bike lane along most of the length of this street but at the northern end there's a 5-block gap that forces cyclists coming from the bike lane on Wellington (in front of Parliament Hill) to move from right to left across four lanes of car traffic!
