I was riding west on route 106 in Harriman State Park when a group of motorcycles came past me at a very high rate of speed, one doing a wheelie. The posted speed limit at that section is 30mph with the max within the park being 40 mph and certain sections of 106 are just 15 mph. They were also accelerating as they approached a popular hiker crossing a half mile up the road. I’ve never seen a motorcycle pulled over for speeding in my 25 years riding in the park.

Riding up Perkins Drive I heard loud motorcycles approaching so I squeezed to the right as far as I could to give them space. One rider in the group decided to get so close to me that his saddle bag brushed my leg and as he passed he swerved towards me. He had ample room to his left to give me the legally required passing distance but chose instead to bully me. I was lucky not to crash. It was a very long ride and the Fly12 SD card was written over so I missed the plate number.

This motorcyclist learned the hard way that just because you too ride on two wheels and are also from a vulnerable class of road user, it does not give you the right to assault others using your vehicle, just to satisfy your irrational hatred of other road users.

Pedestrians, cyclists, women, children, the less mobile and the elderly, all deserve safe access to the public road, free from the threat of road violence.
*80km/hr speed zone, minimum legal passing distance required = 1.5m

An enjoyable journey this rare sunny morning was interrupted when a motorcyclist performed this ridiculously close pass, overtaking by cms instead of the legally required 1.5m minimum passing distance for this 80km/hr zone. This assault was reported to police who said the motorcyclist would be a issued a ticket for the offence.

Poor riding from the moped rider
