The camper van 1CGG387 has been parked well off the curb for about 2 weeks now. Because of its loose parking it is taking up about 1/4 of the bike lane. Normally it’s not an issue but today I’m feeling a bit squeezed.

Since at least 2020, Burton’s Bar & Grill has unilaterally converted the bike lane to curbside parking. As of April 2023, parking spaces still replace the bike lane. The county required a continuous bike lane here as a condition of approving the development plan. However, the county is not willing to enforce that requirement. In addition to putting people on bikes at unnecessary risk, the parking in the bike lane also obstructs a fire hydrant and a portion of the vehicle travel lane, adding to conflicts approaching the traffic signal.

Some stupid persons at the Christchurch City Council decided to put plants that blocked the cycle lane and drivers don’t know their road code which states: You must not go into or attempt to cross the intersection, railway level crossing, pedestrian crossing or an area controlled by pedestrian traffic signals, unless there’s space for your vehicle on the other side.
