On Saturday, Feb 4, I was involved in a road rage incident on Barnard Way in Santa Monica, CA. Barnard Way is a narrow street with painted "sharrows" located next to the beach. The driver of a silver Corolla was behind me and 3 other riders. She began honking her horn aggressively. We pulled over at the next intersection to let her by. She couldn't just roll past, she stopped to yell at us while holding her phone in one hand. I yelled back to put down her phone. She went past us then stopped in the middle of the road. I stopped behind her and took out my phone and took pictures of the car and license plate. She put the car in reverse like she was going to run over me. I went around her on the right. She continued to yell at me the entire time. She stayed stopped in the middle of the street for a bit longer, possibly waiting for my friends to approach. She then proceeded to her destination which was a beach parking lot a block away.
The following Monday, I drove up to the Santa Monica Police Dept , but they refused to take a report. If she had scratched the paint on my car, that would have been reportable, but threatening a cyclist with a car was not serious enough.
