Cut off by dangerous driver

I was travelling down Forest Way, Belrose, in front of a small group of riders, travelling downhill at about 45 kmh.
The driver of a dark Renault Megane passed me then immediately braked, indicated and proceeded to turn left across my path (and the bike lane) leaving me nowhere to go but pass on his right-hand side. I could not have braked safely or effectively to avoid him.
I find it hard to believe this was not an intentional action by the driver.
Scarily there was a ute immediately behind him which did a marvellous job of braking and changing lanes to miss me. He was obviously peeved, judging by the loud honk of his horn.
