Just a Magpie on guard duty

Swooping season

Lapwing plover freaked out by cyclists almost gets squished.

In Australia, not only do our Magpies swoop cyclists, but also a smaller, more aggressive bird, the Butcher Bird, will occassionally swoop as well. My mate Vince was struck twice by a local butcher bird on our ride. On the way out and the way back. It ignored me completely.

Out for a beautiful early morning ride before encountering 100’s of pheasants on a quiet road

First nesting magpies encountered this season.

We’ve got a wonderful network of trails along the Anacostia River and its tributaries. There are a few spots prone to flooding. These geese took up residence in a pool on the path, but didn’t mind me passing too much.

Just your everyday neighborhood turkey family crossing.
