white KIA minivan CA plate AST 126 (has a disability icon) passes too close at high speed, uses horn.mp4

1 year ago...more

The driver of this white minivan came within a few inches of hitting my friend riding behind me and got way too close to me going about 45 mph. We both have bright red lights, and I saw the driver slow down until they could pass us, so they clearly saw us. The fast speed, close pass, and the horn blasting a few feet away from us was clearly intended as a punishment. Reckless and negligent drivers like this need their licenses revoked *before* they kill someone. Paint-only bicycle lanes are dangerous joke, we need protected, separated bicycle lanes if city planners insist on designing all the main arterial roadways here at speeds often fatal to people on foot, bikes, or wheelchairs. At 40mph, a car/pedestrian collision is usually fatal. At 20 mph, the pedestrian usually survives.
