Everyone wants to get home safely on a Friday afternoon

1 year ago...more

I had an errand at a store less than 2 miles from my house. There is a short segment where I have to take the lane to be in the correct lane to get through to where I can turn into my neighborhood. It is a SHORT segment, yet a woman who was behind me at the first light couldn't be bothered to wait just a few seconds to see what I was doing. She crossed a double yellow line into oncoming traffic to pass me closely on the left to get in front of me. In the end I was right behind her anyway at the next light, then quickly ducked into my neighborhood. Her pass was too close--my heart was still pounding ten minutes later when I got home. (I currently only have a rear-facing camera but hope to remedy that soon!) In Virginia the LAW is that cyclists have the right to take the lane when it is the safest thing for them to do.
