Delivery Truck Blocking Cycle Lane and Creating a Safety Hazard

Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France

19 Sep, 2026 - 4 weeks ago - on Quai Schaken

This is a particularly frustrating example. As you can see, there appears to be plenty of suitable parking space available on the other side of the street for the delivery truck.

Instead, the driver has parked directly in the middle of the double cycle lane, forcing cyclists to move out into the road and into the path of oncoming traffic. This is especially concerning because the location is a blind spot and creates an unnecessary safety risk.

At the beginning of the video, another cyclist tried to warn me that there was a vehicle blocking the cycle lane. I initially misunderstood what she meant, but after ringing my bell and approaching the obstruction, I realised she was warning me about the truck parked in the cycle lane.

I spoke to the driver and told him that I would be reporting the incident, which I am doing here. If appropriate, I will also report it to the local authorities.

When there is clearly available parking nearby, there is no reason for a large vehicle to be left in the middle of a cycle lane and force cyclists into traffic. I hope this report helps highlight the safety issues caused by this type of parking and encourages drivers to consider the impact their parking has on cyclists and other road users.
