Crazy Shea
14 Jan, 2024 - 1 year ago - on East Shea Boulevard Forcing cyclists onto the sidewalk to hit the beg button is never good. Neither are those flashing left turn arrows. Both combine to create this life threatening situation. Heading northbound on 40th Street in Phoenix, I hit the beg button because the light will not change. Problem 1. I then wait as the left turn arrow cycles. I get a green light AND a pedestrian light, so at the gap, I start across the intersection. But the left turners have other ideas. I am nearly hit by at least three of these speeding vehicles, none of which even slowed down. I think the pick-up actually sped up. This is a serious safety hazard and this intersection represents negligent cycling infrastructure. What's needed? A cycling box at the head of the intersection. Sensing technology to know a cyclist is present. Either that, or put a cyclist beg button at the curbside. RED ARROWS ON GREEN for counterflow left turning vehicles when a cyclist is present! Clearly, a green light ith a flashing yellow sends the wrong message.
