Close pass by oblivious driver
28 Jun, 2025 - 2 weeks ago - on Old 122 Road I was riding next to the right edge line when the driver of a 2018 Dodge Journey (Ohio GVX2915) came breezing right past like I wasn't even there. State law in Ohio is minimum of three feet of clearance when passing a cyclist; I'm not sure I even got two. A couple miles later, the same vehicle stopped in the road for no apparent reason. As I prepared to pass on the left, the driver turned left, causing me to swerve off the right side of the road and crash. After I did a quick bike check, I confronted the driver, who had pulled into her driveway. There was some sort of family gathering in progress, and a group of men came over. First, the woman said she wasn't the driver (possibly true, since it took me a minute to get over there), but she didn't seem too bothered that I had crashed. Then the men took turns blaming me for the crash that they witnessed for maybe three seconds from 150 feet away, never once acknowledging that the driver was stopped and not signalling a turn. So it turns out that denying responsibility and blaming others runs in the family.
