Despite being on the Victorian Government's Strategic Cycling Corridor route, Matthews Ave does not have cycling lanes marked. Moonee Ponds council, the responsible council for the road have said: "Previous investigations by Council have found that it is not feasible to provide adequate cycling facilities on Matthews Avenue without major modification, removal or relocation of a large number of assets, many of which are not owned or managed by Council. Relocating car parking to the eastern side of Matthews Avenue to provide bicycle facilities would only be feasible with similar large asset removal or relocation. Therefore, while we continue to investigate ways to improve cycle access on and near Matthews Avenue, we acknowledge that there is no simple solution to provide high quality cyclist facilities on the current road environment."
