Why record your ride?

If you ride on the road, it’s getting harder to get home safely. More distracted, dangerous drivers and infrastructure that hasn’t kept up with demand. It’s tough out there, and it’s time to do something about it.

We believe there are three things that can change the safety equation for bike riders. Raising AWARENESS of how big the problem is and the changes that can be made to make sure every road user gets home safely. Influencing planning priorities with the only real-world INFORMATION on cycling black spots. Getting the evidence needed to PROSECUTE drivers who continue to put lives at risk.

Make your mark on improving cycling safety by posting your footage of any incidents you’ve encountered. When you add to UpRide, everyone benefits.

Stuck In A Pickle (Bike Lane)

PERTH, AUS

Pulls up way over the stop line and completely blocks the cycle lane so I have to pull into the next lane of traffic to avoid him. The whole scene is not helped by the nutcase with all the important road signs, who has pulled up so close as not to permit the driver to correct his mistake.

From The Archives

2024

SHELLY BEACH, AUSTRALIA

Robert Kevin Kinley drove so close the rider knocked on his window. Robert had a rant and assaulted one of the riders. In court Robert received $1,700 in fines and had a previous CCO for violent behaviour.

2023

PORTLAND, UNITED STATES

Footage reported to the police and insurance parties as requirements for further litigation process. Will receive at least coverage on all medical and personal expenses.

2022

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

In Victoria, Australia you have to register the incident at the applicable local Police Station, which I did by phone on the evening of the accident. In the Police phone interview I advised all the details and that I had photos and video footage of the incident. I shared those with the Police via email. The Police created an incident report and provided me with an Incident number. I was advised the following day that the driver had been charged.

2021

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA

I spoke to the driver and asked him to pull over to exchange details, to which he replied “Why?! You hit me!” and then drove off, ‘prompted’ by the car behind. Potential $1250 fine and 3 months imprisonment for driving off (let alone the incident) says his action wasn’t the right call.

2020

MAGNOLIA, UNITED STATES

The driver was taken to court, he was unlicensed and legally blind.

Bunch Ride Mishaps

Racing at my local club race. The bunch slowed an sat up in the back straight. The rider with number 2 on his back has his front wheel chopped at 17 seconds in and causes rider 19 and 4 to come down. Didn’t help that rider 19 had one hand off the wheel.

A Wheel Kiss

NSW, AUSTRALIA

Cruising up around 50km/hr, all was well until it was time to turn in. A little back off from me in the front saw him kiss my rear wheel, and the rest is dust, a flying phone and only a meter to a steel barricade. Luckily, it was only skin and bar tape that took a beating, and the camera caught it all!

Overtake Gone Wrong

Who Let This Dog Out?

CLERMONT, UNITED STATES

From the UpRider:
“This is a rural area. Communities don’t always have leash laws. In this case, the dog dashed across the street and nearly got under the front wheel of a cyclist; that always ends poorly for the cyclist.
There can be a crash, or a motorist may swerve to miss the animal and put the cyclists at risk.”

Dodged in Time

Oblivious Close Call

VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

A driver not giving way at a roundabout, oblivious to being seconds away from colliding into a cyclist.

Near Crash Onto Oncoming Car

HYTHE, UNITED KINGDOM

From the UpRider: “Swerves left into our group to avoid the collision – averted as the oncoming car stopped completely. Saved him no time at all as we caught him up at the traffic light at the top of the hill and went past him when he was stuck in traffic in the town. Erratic driving at its finest. Reported to the police.”

Braking Point

CALIFORNIA, united states

An SUV turning nearly collided head-on with a cyclist in the “protected” bike lane. Luckily the cyclist braked in time but this close call highlights the dangers of bike lanes hidden behind parked cars and whether they are truly safe.

UpRide: France Edition

No Respect For Cyclists

TrévouxFrance

A driver fails to yield to a group of cyclists and begins to aggressively push them along the road. This lack of respect can create dangerous situations and pose serious risks to everyone involved.

Harassment From Driver

Le TeichFrance

Another UpRider experiences a driver trying to overtake them at a roundabout, only to then insult the cyclist and speed ahead. It’s unnecessary to be rude when we all should be able to share the same roads.

Dangerous Overtaking

Grézieu-la-VarenneFrance

A split second from disaster, an UpRider captures the moment a driver overtakes them into oncoming traffic. Is the risk really worth it?

Irresponsible Driver

EnnezatFrance

Another driver made an unnecessary close call, coming dangerously close to running a cyclist over. When will they learn to give cyclists the space they need?

Bike Lane Invader

Tassin-la-Demi-LuneFrance

When entering a bike lane, the last thing one would expect is to encounter a car—someone must have been lost.
